Welcome to Jay of the Dead’s New Horror Movies. This is Episode 038, which begins our episode-by-episode coverage of The Last of Us (2023). Dr. Walking Dead Kyle Bishop and Jay of the Dead will watch each week and then release an episode for those who are keeping up and watching along with us. Welcome to the 11th Edition of DEAD MAN STILL WALKING, starring your intrepid host, Dr. Walking Dead Kyle Bishop, who generously brings you an entertaining and insightful Horror movie review of Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead (2021)! During Episode 037, Dr. Bishop spends some time making some distinctions about the subgenre sorting of “Army of the Dead.” He discusses how the classification of “Zombie” has become less a genre type and more of a mode. As always, Dr. Walking Dead examines the noteworthy aspects of this zombie film and places it in context among its predecessors and contemporaries. Here Dr. Bishop throws us a surprise and squeezes in a brand-new, 2022 zombie Horror film for his 10th Edition of DEAD MAN STILL WALKING, a film streaming on Amazon Prime recommended by the Southern Gentleman himself, GregaMortis. So, here in Episode 033, your intrepid host, Dr. Walking Dead Kyle Bishop, brings you an entertaining and insightful Horror movie review of Marcus Dunstan’s Unhuman (2022)! As usual on DMSW, Dr. Bishop begins with some mild film setup, premise and such. And in due course, he stacks Unhuman (2022) up against the well-known conventions of zombie cinema, striving to detect originality and innovation! Dr. Bishop even includes a full-blown spoiler section; however, he does not reveal the film’s final ending. Listen! It’s a fun, 20-minute episode!

For this delightful Ninth Edition of DEAD MAN STILL WALKING, your intrepid host, Dr. Walking Dead Kyle Bishop, brings you an Edward L. Cahn zombie double feature of Zombies of Mora Tau (1957) and Invisible Invaders (1959), a short film. One of these films Dr. Bishop deems a legit zombie flick and the other he calls “zombie-like.” But both are important to the history of zombie cinema because one film may contain the first use of the phrase “The Walking Dead,” as well as what might be the first screen appearance of the aquatic zombie. The other film was most likely used by George Romero as a visual reference for the way zombies move. Dr. Bishop answers his “Is it a zombie?” question for both films, and he also makes an important distinction about the Deadites from “The Evil Dead.” Don’t miss it!

Now that the dust has settled from Halloween, it’s time for the Eighth Edition of DEAD MAN STILL WALKING, where your intrepid host, Dr. Walking Dead Kyle Bishop, discusses Wyrmwood: Apocalypse (2022), sequel to “Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead” (2014), which Dr. Bishop previously reviewed here in Episode 025. Dr. Walking Dead discusses how this sequel serves as a follow-up to its predecessor. He also provides some clarification about a recurring actor who is NOT a recurring character. Kyle gets excited about this film’s “cyborg zombies,” and he also talks about the lesser-known, 7-minute short film, “Wyrmwood: Chronicles of the Dead (2017),” which occurs between the feature-length films, “Road of the Dead” and “Apocalypse.” As always, Dr. Bishop delivers a great review! Welcome to the Third Edition of DEAD MAN STILL WALKING, where Dr. Walking Dead dares you to explore the depths of depravity found in this year’s notorious zombie flick, The Sadness (2022), a new Horror film from Taiwan written and directed by Rob Jabbaz. Dr. Bishop addresses the gore and violence and whether it is excessively or unnecessarily gratuitous. He describes how this new film fits into both 20th century and 21st century zombie narratives. Is “The Sadness” also a Romance? Is it an “Anti-Romance”? Is this film original or derivative? What other zombie narratives, if any, serve as influences? Kyle Bishop answers these questions and discusses the distinctions between “gluttonous zombies” and “wrath zombies” / “lust zombies.” In the beginning of his review, Dr. Bishop discusses some very mild, premise-based “spoilers.” But after providing a spoiler warning, he eventually covers full-blown spoilers for “The Sadness.” Listen!
