New Horror Movies Ep. 179: Dead Man Still Walking - Weapons (2025)
It’s alive! Your favorite Zombie Movie Podcast shambles back into your ears once again — Dead Man Still Walking, starring the ever-insightful (and occasionally curmudgeonly) Dr. Walking Dead himself, Kyle William Bishop! In this episode, the good doctor is joined by none other than special guest Jay of the Dead for a thoughtful — and at times boisterous — discussion of “Weapons” (2025). In this edition, Dr. Bishop digs into a provocative question: Is Weapons actually more of a “true” zombie film than even the works of George A. Romero? It’s a bold claim, and one that sparks plenty of analysis about what really defines a zombie narrative, beyond just shambling corpses and apocalyptic backdrops.

New Horror Movies Ep. 176: Dead Man Still Walking - Ziam (2025)
Here in Dead Man Still Walking, Dr. Kyle William Bishop reviews a Netflix Original, Action Martial Arts / Science Fiction / Zombie flick from Thailand called Ziam (2025) — as in “Zombie Siam” or “Ziam.” But using his technical definition, Dr. Bishop would not call “Ziam” much of a Horror movie, despite its zombie monsters because it has hardly any suspense or tension. It is mostly Action (with an empowered protagonist), which is not conducive to promoting fear within viewers. Even so, it’s fun to hear Dr. Bishop talk about watching this film during his camping adventures. Listen!

New Horror Movies Ep. 166: Dead Man Still Walking - The Purple Smurfs (1981)
Jay of the Dead’sNew Horror Movies presents… the 55th Edition of the world’s greatest Zombie Movie Podcast — Dead Man Still Walking, starring Dr. Walking Dead Kyle Bishop! In this fascinating and unexpectedly subversive episode, Dr. Bishop welcomes special guest Jay of the Dead to explore the surprising horror history of “The Purple Smurfs” (yes, those Smurfs!) and their uncanny place in zombie canon. This is a must-listen for fans of zombie cinema. Likely inspired somewhat by Richard Matheson’s novel, “I Am Legend” (1954) — yet before George Romero’s shambling ghouls — there existed a little-known, infected-zombie narrative within the Belgian comic, Les Schtroumpfs Noirs (“The Black Smurfs”) from 1959, later wisely adapted for American audiences in 1963 as “The Purple Smurfs.” What seems like a simple children’s story reveals shocking thematic roots in infection, rage, and apocalypse, complete with an urgent race to find a cure. Dr. Bishop herein declares, “Yes, the Purple Smurfs are zombies.”

New Horror Movies Ep. 153: Dead Man Still Walking - 28 Years Later (2025)
Welcome to your favorite Zombie Movie Podcast — Dead Man Still Walking. In this 53rd edition of DMSW, host Dr. Walking Dead (Kyle William Bishop) welcomes special guest Jay of the Dead for a Take 2, spoiler-filled conversation about Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later (2025), the long-awaited third installment in the iconic, infected zombie film franchise. Both Kyle and Jay express their love for 28 Days Later (2002) and 28 Weeks Later, setting the stage for a comparison and assessment of this latest entry. Dr. Bishop offers analytical insights while fielding Jay’s many questions about the new film. In fact, Kyle addresses the oft-asked question of why there was never a “28 Months Later,” providing context and spawning speculation about sequels and even unlikely prequel concepts. As with most zombie-related conversations, this discussion includes the legacy of George A. Romero, whom Kyle credits as the grandfather of both the re-animated dead and the infected zombie sub-genres. Together, Kyle and Jay explore the mysteries of zombie evolution over nearly three decades, while including — of course — a chat about the anatomical and gestational nuances of these infected beings.
