In 2015, Jay of the Dead produced an “on the road” podcast episode called “The I-80 Tapes.” The primary focus of those live recordings was Jay traveling westward across the country, along Interstate 80, and stopping at gas stations and truck stops to record his DVD findings at the $5 bargain movie bins! But for that episode, Jay had planned another facet to those recordings, but he “chickened out” because he didn’t feel he could pull it off well enough… Seven years later, Jay of the Dead returns in Episode 008 of Jay of the Dead’s New Horror Movies where he endeavors to deliver a heavily, “execution-dependent” podcast episode that we hope will be entertaining and unforgettable!

Not to worry, though… Even if all that ambition fails, Episode 008 still brings you your seven favorite Horror hosts — Dr. Shock, Gillman Joel, Mister Watson, Dr. Walking Dead, GregaMortis, Count Mackula, and of course, Jay of the Dead. During this show, we’ll bring you new Horror movie reviews of Morbius (2022), The Nameless Days (2022), The Seed (2022), You Won’t Be Alone (2022), and a Thriller called Barbarians (2022). Join our cohosts for some entertaining reviews, and tag along with Jay and his “Necro-MOM-icon” as they travel to Las Vegas and hunt for $5 movie bargain bins!

Thanks for the shout out, Gregamortis!
I saw ‘Invasion of the Saucer Men’ at a very young age, so the creepy disembodied hand is burned deep into my brain. Take the aliens from this film & the saucers from ‘Earth vs the Flying Saucers’, and you have the designs pretty much copied in ‘Mars Attacks’.
I think I have a better feel for your segment now, so can offer more relevant suggestions, like:
Fiend Without a Face (1958)
The Amazing Colossal Man (1957)War of the Colossal Beast (1958)
Thanks for showing us ‘The Angry Red Planet’ in that earlier episode. You finally found one I haven’t seen or heard of before!

That was brilliant! One of my all time favourite podcast episodes ever, from my favourite horror podcast. Incredible work to all of you, especially Jay, Spawn, and Necromomicon.

As for killer bear movies, I was a bit surprised that Backcountry wasn’t on the list! To me, that movie has the most troubling bear attack scene ever put to film, no kidding. And if we’re allowing non-horror movies, I have to mention the all-time great, fascinatingly unsettling documentary Grizzly Man.

Legends, all of you!

Graham! Awesome to hear from you, my friend! Jay’s “found footage podcast” segment was so amazing to hear! Jay, his son, and his mom killed it!

And bro! I DID have Backcountry on there, I swear! It was like 4 or 5. I LOVE that movie. I believe I was happy to have had a movie featuring a black bear, rather than just a bunch of grizzlies, but we all know I want a POLAR BEAR! LOL!

Lastly… I’ve never seen Grizzly Man… I’m kinda scared to watch. Is it messed up… all things considered?

Congrats to everyone on yet another great episode!

Jay mentioned movies about people surviving the woods with someone on their trail. An impressive & underrated one is called Red Dot, which is currently on Netflix. Definitely worth the time for those who find entertainment in that type of storyline.

I plan to check out The Nameless Days this week. Thanks for the review.

Great episode as always! Seems like Watson may have been enjoying his drink a little though haha. I’d love for you guys to start utilizing the written reviews section on the website. I’ve been trying around with the idea of starting that on my show’s website as well, so it’d be cool to see it!

The on the road recordings were a nice break in between the normal segments. Once I figured out what you were doing with the necrinomicon segments I got really excited.

On the monsters on the mantle segment it’s unfortunate to hear that the alien design is cool when the movie isn’t. I saw the poster and may have to check it out just on the design alone.

Jay, on the topic of movies that are tainted by real life horror, I have no problem at all disconnecting the art from the artist. I’ll watch and have no problem enjoying a movie even if something untoward happened during the filming or the moral quality of the filmmakers. Like you said, it’s impossible to avoid films with bad histories or bad people involved, so I take more of an all or nothing approach. It doesn’t necessarily mean I will support the movie financially, but some of the movies I already enjoyed long before I knew the issues associated with them.

Now to Spawn’s question on Trick r Treat 2. It’s been in development hell for almost a decade now. Dougherty has wanted to make it for years, but it seems like it may be difficult at this point. Like your boy I am also excited by the idea of a sequel as this has become a classic for me.

I’ll try to get to a truck stop on my way to pick up my daughter Wednesday and scope it out for you Jay.

Phew I feel like responding to everything in this episode is a full time job. Jay should definitely be paying me to do this haha. Just kidding I will gladly comment every time I can.

My man… I found myself more deeply in my cups than planned! Not likely to happen again anytime soon! LOL! Oh, goodness! I can’t believe how much of that bottle was gone! It was Friday night… what can I say? Haha.

But yes, homie, I’m happy to hear you agree with me that at some point in the future, this website may have to expand into territory that encompasses more than just the podcast. I dunno. It’s a lot to deal with, and it’s all up to Jay, but I could see this being something of a Bloody Disgusting/Dread Central type site one day down the line.

As for separating art and artist… I’m right there with you, man, and I have some interesting real world examples that have shaped my views of this profoundly. More and more, I’m finding that any moral high-horse I may have ever had on this subject just doesn’t hold up to any real scrutiny. But what do I know? Not much, honestly.

Let’s see… Trick ‘r Treat is one of my favorite horror movies of all time, and I welcome that sequel! I pray to the gods holy and unholy alike that there is a segment that takes place in the 1600s à la The Witch! YES!

Thanks for always commenting. You rock!

Hey you put your work in during the week. You deserve a glass of whiskey or 10 my friend!

I’d love to see it! No offense to Bloody Disgusting or dread central, but I think there’s a lot of room for improvement and innovation on that formula.

I’m glad I have a kindred spirit in the separating art from artist thing!

Thanks for the review of You Won’t Be Alone. I was lucky enough to catch it in the theater knowing almost nothing about it and I loved it. I found it to be a dark meditative drama dealing with identity, gender and the exploration of one’s individuality and their connections with the world around them. It was beautifully shot and written, the narration is poetically innocent and imaginative. Just like Jay I’d give it a strong 8.5/10 and also found it difficult to remember the title.
