For those who aren’t aware, here on Jay of the Dead’s New Horror Movies, our nine Horror hosts record frequently (pretty much weekly, in fact) and throughout the year, as they are available. This dynamic recording process allows us review Horror films in various combinations of co-hosts, like a revolving door of renegade reviewers, resulting in a veritable Horror Magazine in Audio Podcast form! Plus, sometimes it takes us (read: Jay) awhile to release certain portions, so the segments here in Episode 064 were recorded anytime between the end of 2022 to present!

In this episode, we discuss Horror movies like Malum (2023), Death Spin (2022), Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey (2023), Final Exam (1981), Urban Legend (1998), The Grove (2023) and Blood (2023)! During this show, you’ll also hear an in-depth review of Poltergeist (1982), with special guest Dahlia Schweitzer, author of “Haunted Homes.” We also bring you Mackula’s new Interview With Vampires segment, as well as our brand-new, Official Contributor Kagan “Fruit Brute” Breitenbach with his new segment The Midnight Music Society. Join us!

Longtime fan, occasional commenter, and I’m also throwing in my round of applause for Kagan’s new Midnight Music Society segment. What a fascinating idea, particularly for those of us drummers out there who are more rhythmically than melodically inclined, and are always seeking to learn more about the music which surrounds “the kit” (although I too would agree that anything in 15/4 time is asking a LOT of anyone. My internal metronome only goes to 9 before I have to restart/repeat).

I learned so much already, not the least of which how talented John Carpenter is to have all of these synchronous musical and film visions in his head, and his ability to bring all of them to life for the same project. What a show off.

A+ episode in addition to the new musical segment, and I’m grateful for this podcast. Bravo, everyone.

Welcome to Kagen! I love nerding out on music theory, and thought you did a great job explaining the dissonant intervals of m2 and tri tone. I was fascinated by the wave form numbers associated with the intervals. I’m so excited about future segments!
I would love to hear one on the use of “Dies Irae” in horror movies. The obvious example would be the opening to The Shining, but I bet it’s around everywhere.
Also, watching Blood rn! Thanks, dudes!

Great show as usual 🙂 The Midnight Music Society segment was tremendous! I feel like I learnt so much in such a small time 🙂
