We sure hope you can listen to Episode 016 of Jay of the Dead’s New Horror Movies (even if it is 3 hours, 33 minutes long). We bring you reviews of a few brand-new Horror releases, including Good Madam (2022), Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022), and Fall (2022), with a special guest appearance from Spawn of the Dead! Also, Dave Becker introduces a new bonus segment called Dr. Shock’s Horror Blu-ray Corner! Back in Episode 009, Kyle Bishop thought Mack gave a very controversial rating to “Night of the Living Dead” (1968), so you will get to hear a tremendous examination of this film with Dr. Walking Dead and Mackula. Jay of the Dead sparks a Concept Discussion about a recent trend we’re seeing in Horror movies — the fast headbutting scene. And GregaMortis and Jay of the Dead both throw down 9.5 ratings on a must-see, must-own monster movie from 1958 for GregaMortis’s Monsters on the Mantle segment! And finally, in Episode 016, we bring you our group review of Mackula’s John Kenneth Muir pick, Count Dracula (1970)! Join us!

Have to comment, guys, the music you make for the podcast is great. It really adds a lot to the listening experience. Dr. Shock’s new theme song; I love it!
Great music, fellas!

Gregamortis needs his own sweet sweet theme song. I could help you out with that if you want. I think it needs to be really metal and hard, a real cool sweet groove metal riff. I’m thinking Pantera 1990, Moscow ‘Domination’. Look it up, listeners!

I have to commet, Gregamortis, about how important the drummer is in this band. We all get so excited about the lead guitar and lead vocalist. Vinnie’s drumming is so superior that it really forms the cornerstone of Pantera’s sound. Dime just riffs and jams around the frame that Vinnie has created.
Drummers are so important! They create the whole world that guitarists work in. I’m a real working guitarist, so I approve of this message.

I totally agree with you. Vinnie was one of the the best in the pocket drummers. Without his hard hitting pops the band would have sounded much different. RIP Vinnie and Dime.

I have been teaching Dracula and Dracula films for years, and I have never seen or even really knew about this version–titled “Nights, When Dracula Awakens” in German, for some reason. Having not seen it, I cannot comment to its fidelity to the novel, but I will trust Dr. Shock’s assessment (as always). For those interested, the MOST faithful adaptation of Stoker’s novel is actually a BBC mini-series from 1977 directed by Philip Saville (it didn’t have a huge budget, but tremendous attention was paid to the period aspects of things).

More trivia–while Dracula has been perhaps overly invested in the seduction of the British women from Browning’s film, the whole “Mini is the reincarnation of Dracula’s long-dead lover” angle comes to us thanks to none other than Richard Matheson, who penned the 1974 TV movie directed by Dan Curtis, an otherwise excellent adaptation (so Coppela’s 1992 film should have been titled “Richard Matheson’s Dracula”).

Oh, and Jay–Harker ignores all the harbingers because of his overinflated sense of British superiority. He thinks the Romanians and Transylvanians are all uneducated, superstitious, and foolish. Stupid prideful Jonathan.

Great work, fellas! I really missed out.

Dr. Bishop, I was very sad you weren’t there because I would have loved to pick your brain with regards to the various academic readings of the original novel. I have heard some BRILLIANT interpretations of the text, and I’ve heard some that I find TERRIBLE at best. Would have been a fun way to derail the review! 🙂

Hey fellas, it’s reminding, not scolding or shaming. Or maybe it’s just nagging.
Looking forward to your thoughts on the most important horror event of 2022.
