I’m really digging the concept of this podcast! The patchwork style way of recording offers me the ability to quickly jump in and out if I only have a limited amount of time to listen. And the detailed overview with timestamps that accompanies each episode makes it easy to jump ahead or back to certain subjects. Keep up the good work!

As to your discussion about The Hunting (which I haven’t seen yet, but the DVD is making its way over to me as I write this): it’s not that uncommon for werewolf movies or stories to have three consecutive nights of the full moon each month. I guess they do this to avoid having to come up with ways to jump ahead an entire month after each werewolf related event. Sometimes the werewolf is then also at its most powerful during the night of the ‘real’ full moon and a bit weaker the night before and after.

And while there is no movie that explores the fate of werewolves ON the moon (as far as I know), there is a comic book that does this. It even pitches them against vampires (who hide out on the dark side of the moon, of course). It’s simply called ‘Werewolves On The Moon: Versus Vampires’ and it’s goofy fun.

Great episode 👍
For Jay, I think that you would like the movie “Animales Humanos” (Human Animals) available on prime. It fits on the category “It Could Happen to You Horror section”.

Keep the episodes coming

My answer to Dr. Shock is none other than 1990’s Night of the Living Dead! Even in the future I think people would be terrified to see people rising from the grave and attacking/eating living people.

Great question and great discussion. I initially thought of something along the lines of Martyrs. Anything that inflicts pain onto the human body would invoke a response to anyone. While the feeling may be uncomfortable, shocked or disturbed…. thinking about ‘fear’ specifically, I am going to suggest Insidious. I think most cultures have some form of the spiritual or supernatural, and all people dream.

I used to teach English at a college in Beijing, China and every Halloween I would show them a horror movie to my students to see how they responded. Insidious really scared them.

For Dr. Shock’s question, I’ve got a one-word answer for that.

BEGOTTEN. No words spoken, but eerie and gripping imagery that sticks with you.

My answer to Dr. Shock’s question is The Thing! Claustrophobia, isolation, paranoia, not truly knowing those around you, and those creepy ass mutations. Plus Kurt Russell’s luscious locks are timeless!

Hey guys! Excellent episode. Thanks, Jay, for reviewing Razorback at my request. I guess if I can’t win a prize, that’s the next best thing. 😉 And yes, you said my name perfectly.
Keep up the good work, all. Truly an all-star team you’ve got.

My answer for Dr. Shock’s question is Alien. Even though its set in the future (to us in the present), its bones are a classic haunted house movie. Throw in some horrific visuals like the face hug, the chest burst, the Ash stuff and the giant monster stalking its prey, I think its going to scare pretty much anyone.

Wow.
Jay… Really… 5.5 for The Requin. Really.
Requin means shark. Shark. Not lousy, Lifetime-esque survival movie.
Maybe if it had a different title, I could give it a 2 or 3 out of 10.
The Requin is a garbage movie, subpar acting, too many REALLY dense decisions. It needed sharks earlier in the movie to transcend it to the climax. Watch Great White, they parallel each other and has more sharks.
The Requin- 1 star, that’s for the lovely Alicia Silverstone

I’m still listening, however I have 2 early thoughts.
It’s funny that Dave calls out The Shining right off the bat, I think the visuals would transcend the language and scare so many. I think the visuals would be frightening for the future with no understanding. Just a thought.
As for JanGel… I have a copy from Jay or Dave, lol, I can’t remember who sent it to me.

Werewolves on the moon might also just be people the whole time, too. Not sure exactly how that works, but if it’s psychological, and the wolf needs to see the full moon, maybe if its not in the sky, there’s no issue. Maybe a moon colony is just what lycanthropes need. Then again, maybe on the Moon you only turn into a wolf when the Earth is full.

Great episode as always! The format is working out splendidly, and I was listening as I was working, so every time I thought it was over, another segment would come on.

That true crime story Dave tells is INSANE! I hadn’t heard of the movie or the event, and considering the players, I’m a little shocked I hadn’t.

Jay announces a Jan-Gel giveaway followed by “The listeners deserve it.” Seriously, though, kudos on this! By the time the disc has made the signing rounds and arrived with the winner, there’s a good chance you will have spent more than the director did on both Jan Gel movies combined.

My answer to Dave’s question might be a bit of a cheat, but it’s 1922’s Nosferatu,. Ha a leg up since it was conceived in the silent era, and also benefits from being a vampire story with some excessively creepy photography. The vampire tradition deals in enough symbols of both good and evil that the struggle comes through right away onscreen, and the haunting nature of Noserfatu’s production and its image of the Count hasn’t much dissipated in the first hundred years since its release so a few hundred more might not give much erosion.

And, yes Jay, review Pig Hunt! That movie gives you drug nymphs, motorcycle hillbilly gangs, spoken word slam poetry madness, and a giant killer hog. That’s generosity right there.

Also, know that it’s more of a dark comedy, but you might enjoy Korea’s Chaw as well for giant pig madness.

See these are the types of deep, philosophical questions I’ve come to expect from Mister Watson. I’m thinking some weird stuff could happen with Werewolves on the moon. Their whole existence is based upon the cycles of the moon we experience on earth. Could throw them completely out of whack. At the end of the day I’m just saying I’d be there opening day for a mad max style werewolves on the moon movie.

Hey guys,

I’m very much torn as to whether I actually want to answer Dave’s question or not. I don’t know if I should entertain the chance of letting something so vile enter my home, but Dave asked the question earnestly and Jay kind of hijacked it so I’ll do it for Dave.

My answer? The Descent. I think it’s smart to pick a film in a primal setting where the shock and terror don’t come from long exposition segments and don’t rely on story. Just base emotions and instincts. Anyway that’s my pick. Love the show gents!

For Dr. Shock’s question, I’m gonna say Jaws. Even if Great White Sharks are extinct by that time, I think just the image of seeing the shark looming under the surfer with its mouth open ready to chomp down on him will always terrify.
